About Us
The Steenblock Research Institute was incorporated in 2003 in the state of California as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation under the leadership of Dr. David Steenblock, a pioneer in safe, natural and effective treatments, including the use of stem cells from a person's own bone marrow as well as from the umbilical cord blood of healthy newborn babies.
The Institute is dedicated to the public interest through:
- Promoting public awareness of safe and effective regenerative therapies.
- Investigating the safety and feasibility of promising new diagnostic methods and treatments.
While the controversy continues over embryonic stem cells, Dr. Steenblock and his research associates are quietly pursuing safe alternatives such as bone marrow stem cells and umbilical cord blood derived stem cells. Dr. Steenblock believes that the clinical results being obtained from these "adult" stem cells, especially their combination, are every bit as good or better than what he has seen from those treated with embryonic stem cell therapies in other countries.
Our History
2004
During the first six months of 2004, The SRI staff followed the progress of eight cerebral palsy children, 3 to 12 years of age, who had been treated with umbilical cord derived stem cells in Mexico. None of the children experienced graft versus host reactions. In addition, a majority of the children improved in several areas, including muscle tone, leg and hip movement, balance, speech, comprehension and vision.
A book was then compiled from the first-hand stories from patients and caregivers of their experiences with cord stem cell treatments. Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Therapy, The Gift of Healing from Healthy Newborns, by Drs. Steenblock and Payne is available through Basic Health Publications, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and various retail outlets. The book is based on the experiences of patients and their caregivers.
2005
In beginning observations, children and young adults responded well to the cord stem cell treatments but more needed to be done for the adults. Dr. Steenblock's laboratory staff began testing for factors in patients' blood that would help determine stem cell responders. The testing expanded to urine and stool samples and studying the effects of endotoxins on stem cells under laboratory conditions.
Various nutritional, lifestyle and environmental factors have been reported to be detrimental to stem cells and without normal repair processes in the body that include stem cells, tissue and organ degeneration ensues. Detoxification programs that eliminate many of these toxic factors, improve the results of stem cell treatments. Stem cell therapy is therefore a natural extension of alternative medicine because the "cleaner" the system, the greater the opportunity for the body to heal itself. Therefore, detox programs are now suggested to improve treatment results.
2006 - 2007
In 2006, Dr. Steenblock launched a new clinical program in autologous (self transplant) bone marrow treatments, where the bone marrow is taken from a patient's leg and given back as a transfusion. The bone marrow is rich in CD34+ and mesenchymal stromal/stem cells which are showing promise as a procedure for degenerative diseases and rejuvenation. The Steenblock Research Institute is providing follow-up data on the bone marrow patients as well as the patients going to Mexico for umbilical cord stem cells. Dr. Steenblock is finding that in several hard to treat cases, the combination of a person's own bone marrow with the young, healthy cord stem cells can provide better results than either treatment by itself.
Our Future
There is a great deal to be done, which includes providing information through publications, DVD's and lectures on safe and effective regenerative therapies to both physicians and the public. With your assistance, we can make a difference!
